On behalf of the whole team at Alberta 1, general manager Sean Edward would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the teams’ loyal fans and inform them about future plans for the team. “We have had mixed results in our first half season. Originally we had planned to become a strong climbing team with a second squad devoted to time trials to help with the expenses our developing team.” “While our climbing squad has shown some success, our time trial riders have been unable to produce many results.”
Brian Walthal was the obvious choice to lead the team as scouting reports predicted that he could become a very good climber and would be plenty capable of holding his own on descents and on smaller hills. After selling a couple riders to raise funds Alberta 1 sent Brian to multiple training sessions where he became an impressive climber, winning back to back races in his first week after the training. Unfortunately however, he was not to become the rider everyone had hoped. “I feel like I am simply unable to improve past this point.” Stated a very frustrated Walthal after his latest training session
“This is obviously a very disappointing setback for the whole team,” were the words of veteran rider and walthal’s #1 domestique Saul De Saldanha. “I have seen a lot of promising riders fail to achieve their potential in my carer, but I think this case is the most disappointing.”
When asked where his team plans to go from here Sean replied: “Brian Walthal is a solid climber and is more than capable of winning races at this level. He will continue to lead Alberta 1 in the near future;” however Sean has already started negotiations for a new rider who will eventually take over the reigns from Walthal.” “Our teams’ future is still somewhat uncertain, but after extensive research and contact with advisers we have decided to redirect our focus to cobbling and sprinting as we believe this will be more profitable in the future.”
Because of this redirection Alberta 1 is planning to sell its time trail riders including the promising Sebastian Gruszka. These funds will go towards acquiring lead outs and team mates as well as helping to fund training for the future captain. Sean says this will be a difficult time financially as well as for team moral. “It will be a challenging transition however I am confidant we will pull together and can emerge a serious contender in higher divisions.”
